HomeMy WebLinkAboutRes1992-009 Sponsored by Planning & Zoning Commission CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION RESOLUTION NO. 92-009 A RESOLUTION OF THE SEWARD PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION, IN SUPPORT OF THE PROPOSED ALASKA SEA LIFE CENTER AND THE EFFORTS OF THE SEWARD ASSOCIATION FOR ADVANCEMENT OF MARINE SCIENCE (SAAMS) WHEREAS, the Seward Association for Advancement of Marine Science (SAAMS) has undertaken the development of the proposed Alaska Sea Life Center to be built in Seward; and WHEREAS, the Alaska Sea Life Center will provide mammal exhibits for public viewing, provide public education on the Alaskan marine ecosystem, support scientific research of marine mammals and provide support to rehabilitate stranded and stressed marine mammals and birds; and WHEREAS, SAAMS is the project director and fund-raising arm for the ~laska Sea Life Center and will steer the project through completion with the technical assistance of design and management consultants; and WHEREAS, SAAMS will maintain oversight of the Center through an appointed Board of Directors who represent the business, academic, scientific, Alaska Native and rehabilitation communities; and WHEREAS, development of the Alaska Sea Life Center will provide increased economic activity and tourism, additional employment opportunities and enhanced education for the citizens of the community as well as visitors to Seward; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Seward Planning and Zoning Commission that: Section 1. The Planning & Zoning Commission supports the development of the Alaska Sea Life Center in the community of Seward. Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption. PASSED AND APPROVED by the Seward Planning and Zoning Commission this 3rd day of June, 1992.
