HomeMy WebLinkAboutRes1994-018 Sponsored by Jones CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION RESOLUTION NO. 94-18 A RESOLUTION OF TIlE SEWARD PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION, GRANTING A VARIANCE TO TIlE SEWARD ASSOCIATION FOR TIlE ADVANCEMENT OF MARINE SCIENCE (SAAMS) TO EXCEED MAXIMUM BUILDING HEIGHT LIMITS IN CONJUNCTION WITII TIlE DEVEWPMENT OF A MARINE RESEARCH AND PUBUC EDUCATION FACILITY ON WHAT IS CURRENTLY IDENTIFIED AS SEWARD WATERFRONT TRACTS 2-6, MUNICIPAL DOCK AND ACCESS ROAD WHEREAS, the Seward Association for the Advancement of Marine Science has requested a Variance from the established maximum building height limits to facilitate the construction of a marine research and public education facility on what is currently identified as Seward Waterfront Tracts 2-6, the municipal dock and access road; and WHEREAS, an application meeting the requirements set forth in ~ 15. 10. 325(B) of the Seward Zoning Code was submitted and received on July 12, 1994; and WHEREAS, the request is for development on land zoned Commercial Business District (Institutional); and WHEREAS, a duly advertised public hearing meeting the requirements set forth in ~ 15. 10. 325 (D) of the city code was held by the commission on August 3,1994; NOW, TIlEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Seward Planning and Zoning Commission that: Section 1. The proposed use satisfies the conditions specified in Seward City Code Section l5.l0.325(D). Section 2. The City Clerk is hereby authorized to issue a Variance permit to the SAAMS to exceed maximum building height limits for a marine research and public education facility on what is currently identified as Seward Waterfront Tracts 2-6, the municipal dock and access road, subject to the following conditions: 1. The height requirement is a function of required technical design need rather than simple architectural desires. 2. The average building height variance will not exceed four feet. 3. P & Z review and approval of the fmal design plans. Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
