PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION
RESOLUTION NO. 96-04
A RESOLUTION OF THE SEWARD PLANNING AND ZONING
COMMISSION, GRANTING A SIGN VARIANCE TO THE BREEZE
INN/SUPER SIGNS FOR A SIGN ON TIlE NORTH SIDE OF TIlE
BREEZE INN MOTEL
WHEREAS, the Breeze Inn/Super Signs has requested permission to erect an additional
sign on the north wall of the Breeze Inn Motel located at 1306 Third Avenue in order to assist
residents and visiting public in locating the business from other than the front or side of the
building; and
WHEREAS, in accordance with the Seward City Code, the Planning and Zoning
Commission has the authority to grant a variance that is in harmony with the general pmpose and
intent of the code which includes: community aesthetics; commercial communication to the public;
protection and enhancement of the historic charm, natural beauty, visual character and identity of
the community; and flexibility for creative and innovative sign designs; and
WHEREAS, the variance request is within the spirit of the code to provide directions and
identify public buildings;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Seward Planning and Zoning
Commission that:
Section 1. The city clerk is hereby authorized to issue a sign variance to the Breeze
Inn/Super Signs to erect a wall sign on the north wall of the Breeze Inn Motel with said sign
consisting of a 3 x 14 foot wall sign with internally lit letters to be no more than three feet in
height. Said sign will spell out the word "MOTEL" and be mounted on a 16 inch high raceway
painted the same color as the building.
Section 2. The sign permit issued through the city building official shall ensure that the
terms of the variance are followed and the sign is erected in a safe manner.
Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the Seward Planning and Zoning Commission this 3rd
day of April, 1996.
