<br />Sponsored by Staff <br /> <br />CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA <br />PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION <br />RESOLUTION NO. 21:OJ <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE SEWARD PLANNING AND ZONING <br />COMMISSION, AMENDING THE CONDITIONAL USE PERMIT, ISSUED TO THE <br />SEWARD ASSOCIATION FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF MARINE SCIENCE (SAAMS) <br />FOR THE CONSTRUCTION AND OPERATION OF THE ALASKA SEALIFE CENTER <br /> <br />WHEREAS, On September 23, 1994, the SAAMS was issued an amended Conditional <br />Use Permit by the Seward City Council; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the permit was granted for the construction and operation of a marine <br />research and public education facility on Tract 2A, Waterfront Tracts and an associated off-site <br />employee parking lot on Block 5A, Oceanview Subdivision, Addition No.1, subject to 14 <br />conditions; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, SAAMS has requested that the Planning and Zoning Commission amend the <br />permit by removing conditions number 8 and 10; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, a public hearing was held on the requested amendment at the Commission's <br />December 4, 1996 meeting; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, at its January 10, 1997, meeting the Commission directed the administration <br />to prepare a resolution amending SAAMS Conditional Use Permit as follows. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Seward Planning and Zoning <br />Commission that: <br /> <br />Section 1. The City Clerk is hereby authorized to grant an amended Conditional Use <br />Permit to the Seward Association for the Advancement of Marine Science subject to the following <br />changes: <br /> <br />A. Condition Number 8 requiring that the permittee provide public drinking <br />fountains in the plaza area will be removed as a condition of the permit. <br /> <br />B. Condition Number 10 will be amended to read: On site electric utilities will <br />be underground and overhead power lines along Railway Avenue from the alley between 4th and <br />5th Avenue to the west side of 3rd Avenue will be removed. <br /> <br />Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption. <br />
