HomeMy WebLinkAboutRes2002-010 Sponsored by: Staff CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION RESOLUTION NO. 2002-10 RESOLUTION OF THE SEWARD PLANNING AND ZONING COMMIS- SION, RECOMMENDING THAT THE CITY COUNCIL DIRECT THE CITY MANAGER TO ISSUE A REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS FOR LOT 11, BLOCK 6, SEWARD SMALL BOAT HARBOR SUBDIVISION WHEREAS, the City of Seward has leased Lot 11, Block 6, Seward Small Boat Harbor Subdivision to the Chamber of Commerce since 1989 at no cost; and WHEREAS, the lease expires on July 12, 2002; and; WHEREAS, the Chamber of Commerce has utilized the site two weeks each year for the Silver Salmon Derby Booth, and has sublet the site since 1996; and WHEREAS, the Chamber of Commerce has submitted a proposal to continue to lease the property and develop the site into a Silver Salmon Derby Park as a permanent tribute commemorating the importance and history of the Seward Silver Salmon Derby as well as provide a functioning derby booth and weigh station; and WHEREAS, other parties have expressed an interest in submitting development proposals for this 1,211 square foot site; and WHEREAS, The Strategic Plan encourages development consistent with the city's economic base and promotes in-fill development on available lots in established areas within the City. A goal of The Small Boat Harbor Management Plan is to ensure sound, maximized and coordinated development of private and public harbor uplands in support of the needs of the harbor users and visitors. The Municipal Lands Management Plan recommends retaining ownership of the boardwalk lease sites, and as the leases expire issue long term leases and require development according to building codes. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Seward Planning and Zoning Commission that: Section 1.
