PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION
RESOLUTION NO. 2002-13
RESOLUTION OF THE SEWARD PLANNING AND ZONING COMMIS-
SION, PROVIDING A DETERMINATION ON A PROPOSED MUSHROOM
GROWING OPERATION IN THE OFFICE RESIDENTIAL ZONING
DISTRICT
WHEREAS, the City has received a proposal for a commercial mushroom growing operation
in the Office Residential Zoning District; and
WHEREAS, the Office Residential Zoning District is intended to provide for medium density
residential, commercial and office development designed to act as a transition zone between the high
density central business district and surrounding medium-high density residential districts; and
WHEREAS, the Commission reviewed the proposal at its February 5, 2002 regular meeting
and at its February 19, 2002 work session; and
WHEREAS, the information provided on the proposed use revealed that growing and
harvesting mushrooms is a farming operation. The Seward Zoning Code definition of agriculture
includes commercial farming. Agriculture is not an allowed use in the Office Residential Zoning
District.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Seward Planning and Zoning
Commission that:
Section 1. The proposed commercial mushroom growing operation is an agricultural use
which is not an allowed use in the Office Residential Zoning District.
Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the Seward Planning and Zoning Commission this 5th day of
March, 2002.
